Myles Clarkson (Alda) is an accomplished pianist as well as a musical journalist, but his playing career was ruined when his very first performance was viciously criticised despite its quality. Myles meets another pianist who possessed great skill on the instrument before becoming the shrivelled old man he is now. But unbeknownst to Myles, this new friend is in fact a worshipper of Satan who is plotting to use black magic to have his soul switch places with Myles' upon death so he can return to the glory days of his youth and skill.
