Married couple Taeko (Michiyo Kogure) and Mokichi (Shin Saburi) live a rather demure existence in Tokyo.

One weekend Taeko feigns an illness to her husband in order to enjoy a spa weekend with some friends, including her niece Setsuko (Keiko Tsushima).
