Product & Description

Synopsis:

Collection of all five instalments of the original sci-fi action adventure franchise. In 'Planet of the Apes' (1968) astronaut George Taylor (Charlton Heston) crash lands on an unknown planet and discovers a world where mute humans are hunted or enslaved by members of the ruling ape society. When he is captured, he convinces sympathetic chimpanzee psychologist Zira (Kim Hunter) and her fiancé Cornelius (Roddy McDowall) of his intelligence and they appeal to the governing council on his behalf. However, when this fails, Taylor is forced to go on the run and in the process he uncovers the shocking truth about the planet on which he is now stranded. In 'Beneath the Planet of the Apes' (1970) Taylor and Nova (Linda Harrison) travel through the Forbidden Zone in search of a new home. Meanwhile, astronaut Brent (James Franciscus) is sent after Taylor when he and his crew fail to return to Earth. As he pursues Taylor into the Forbidden Zone, he discovers an underground society of telepathic mutated humans who worship an atomic warhead capable of incinerating the entire planet. 'Escape from the Planet of the Apes' (1971) follows Zira and Cornelius as they escape the destruction of their home. They arrive in the United States in 1973 and are transported to the Los Angeles Zoo. When they prove their intelligence they are released and hailed as celebrities but some people resent the apes' arrival and consider them a threat to human supremacy. 'Conquest of the Planet of the Apes' (1972) is set in 1991 after a plague has wiped out all cats and dogs. Apes were taken as pets by humans instead but this soon evolved into the enslavement of the apes. When Caesar (McDowall), the now adult son of Zira and Cornelius, witnesses this, he leads his fellow apes in a rebellion against mankind. Finally, in 'Battle for the Planet of the Apes' (1973), Caesar tries to forge peace between the apes and remaining humans but his efforts are threatened by ambitious gorilla general Aldo (Claude Atkins) and Governor Kolp (Severn Darden), who leads a desperate group of human survivors.
